Permanent Hair Removal (Electrolysis)

All you need to know about Electrolysis Permanent Hair Removal

You've tried everything - tweezing, shaving, waxing, laser hair removal, but not getting the results you are looking for? You want the hair gone for good, simple. Electrolysis hair removal does just that - removes hair PERMANENTLY.

Permanent hair removal is a process. The fact is, hair is stubborn and wants to grow back. However, with persistence and electrolysis, this is the only method of successfully treating stubborn hair growth.

Electrolysis, also commonly referred to as thermolysis (the latest technology - electrolysis reinvented) is a method of removing individual hairs from the face or body. Our Apilus 3G electrolysis device destroys the growth center of the hair (hair follicle) with electrical or heat energy or a combination of both. Have a look at the benefits of Electrolysis

Gone are the days of long and painful electrolysis treatments. With today’s technology, you can have virtually pain free and faster, more effective treatments. You would opt in for electrolysis if you have unwanted light, blond, ginger, grey or white hair and also excellent for african or ethnic hair types. Laser hair removal / IPL does not work on hair that has little to no pigment. From our experience, when it comes to african / ethnic hair, the laser has to be dialled up to the highest setting and a lot of the time, will burn the skin, which may cause further complications.

Electrolysis works on any skin and hair type. This is particularly great news for people with fair skin and blonde or red hair tones; for whom laser and IPL aren’t effective at even temporary hair reduction. The process of electrolysis involves the insertion of an extremely fine probe into the hair follicle (so fine, almost invisible to the naked eye). This is followed by the application of a small current to cauterize the lower portion of the follicle. The hair is then removed. To achieve 100% permanent hair removal results the procedure requires accuracy and precision. Electrolysis is safe when performed by a qualified and skilled operator. It is cost-effective in comparison to temporary hair removal methods.

When seeking quality electrolysis treatment, the skills and experience of the electrologist are paramount. In recent times, we have been fortunate to have some rapid improvements to electrolysis technology which have served to make the process faster and gentler.

Most areas of the body may be treated with electrolysis, including the eyebrows, face, abdomen, thighs, breasts, and legs. There are generally no permanent side effects, but sometimes a temporary, slight reddening of the skin may occur. The effects of this is minimized with the use aloe vera gel and Cataphoresis - a post-electrolysis electrical procedure to close the pores and assists with inflammation of the skin. This also restores the pH balance of the skin. Applying a conductive aloe gel product on the skin using the positive pole does Cataphoresis. The redness that can be produced by electrolysis treatments is significantly reduced by the means of Cataphoresis.  Then, using a good after care cream will guarantee super results.

The causes of unwanted hair growth

Hair growth, unfortunately, is mostly hereditary and could also be due to hormonal changes or disturbances. Certain drugs and illnesses can stimulate hair growth as well. Electrolysis is an option when hair growth is in an area of the body where it may not be desired such as on a woman's upper lip, chin, or bikini line and also, for treating blond, red or stubborn and African / ethnic hair types.

The benefits of Electrolysis hair removal

The only FDA approved method of permanently removing hair

Electrolysis was invented in 1875 and is still recognised by authorities as the only medically and scientifically proven method for 100% permanent hair removal. Authorities include the USA Food & Drug Administration (FDA) who specifically state “Electrolysis is considered a permanent hair removal method, since it destroys the hair follicle.” The FDA is the U.S. government body that regulates medical devices. An article on WebMD states: “The FDA and the American Medical Association recognize only electrolysis as a permanent method of removing hair.”

Number of treatments required

Estimated timeframes for electrolysis treatments

This depends on many factors. For example, the hair growth may be hormonal, if it has previously been waxed or plucked, and the area of the body that requires treatment. Hair grows at different rates all over the body. Hair on the head will grow for a period of up to 3 years before falling out yet hair on our legs may only last 12 weeks. This means it may take 12 weeks for all the hairs on the legs to show before they can be treated – we can only treat the hairs we can see. Some hairs may require several treatments.

As a general rule, under normal circumstances, you can expect to be hair free in treated areas after 12-18 months assuming that the suggested treatment program has been followed.

Beautiful Bodies' definition of permanent hair removal...

"The successful and complete removal of a hair or hairs from any area of the body, by causing sufficient damage to the hair follicle that the state and condition of the follicle itself is counter-inducive to any future hair growth. To hereby make it impossible for hair to take form again inside the follicle, no matter the phase of growth of the hair resulting in long term, permanent effect on the growth of hair".

There are a few epilation and depilation long-term hair removal options for people looking to get rid of unwanted hair. The only treatment that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) describe as permanent is still electrolysis.

Laser hair removal provides long lasting results. However, some people need touch-up sessions to maintain the results. These tend to be necessary, for instance, for females who undergo laser hair removal on the face.

Considering this, would laser hair removal be termed "permanent"?

Laser hair removal works by heating the hair follicles to stop new hairs from growing. This puts the hair follicles in a state of dormancy for a long period of time — much longer than with shaving and waxing. When the hairs do grow back, they’ll be lighter, finer, and fewer in number.

Although the procedure is often touted as a form of “permanent” hair removal, laser treatment only reduces the number of unwanted hairs in a given area. It doesn’t get rid of unwanted hairs completely.
